Work with me

I've spent more than ten years building software for startups, agencies and enterprise teams. Bring me in when a system is slow or fragile, or when it has to grow past what it was built for.

The black hole on the home page is the idea behind this work. It looks like it should tear itself apart, and physics holds it together anyway. I build systems that keep their shape the same way, through traffic spikes and years of changes.

What I can help with

  • Scaling and performance

I find out why a product slows down under real traffic and fix it, whether the cause is rendering, queries, caching or page weight. At Minga I scaled an Angular app from 10,000 to more than a million daily users and cut load times by 40%.

  • Cloud infrastructure and delivery

I set up containerized services on AWS, the CI/CD pipelines that deploy them and the monitoring around them. I cut deployment times by 25% at Autodesk and by 30% at Cheeky Monkey Media.

  • Legacy modernization

I upgrade and refactor aging codebases. At Minga I moved a legacy Angular app to the latest stable version. At Atomic47 Labs I rebuilt a React Native app on a modern stack and cut crashes by 25%.

  • Internal developer platforms

I build developer portals and internal tools that help engineers find services and ship faster. My Backstage plugins at Autodesk are used by more than ten engineering teams and cut onboarding and service-discovery time by an estimated 20%.

  • Technical leadership

I can lead a small team part-time, covering code review, mentoring, sprint planning and architecture decisions. At Minga I managed and trained a team of more than five developers.

  • Accessible web applications

I build web apps that meet WCAG 2.0 AA. At XAP Corporation I built accessible government applications that ran in more than 30 U.S. states.

Where I've done this

More than ten years across startups, agencies and enterprise teams, including Autodesk, Minga and the Epic Games Store. The full history is on LinkedIn.

How an engagement runs

  1. Discovery

I learn the problem in detail. I go through the requirements, talk to stakeholders and write down user needs and technical constraints.

  2. Analysis

I map out the architecture, find the hard parts and write a plan. I flag risks and tradeoffs before any code depends on them.

  3. Development

I build in small, tested increments and keep your team in the loop, adjusting the plan as we learn.

  4. Delivery

I test, document and deploy the work, then hand it over so your team owns what we built.
